Rice Cake

I went down to Chinatown today and stopped by a small Malaysian restaurant and it was selling sweet rice cake (Nian Gao).  I got so excited because (1) I have never seen the sweet rice cake in banana leaf before (maybe it is Malaysian thing) and (2) I love this cake when I was a small child.

My paternal grandmother whom practically watched after me until she passed away when I was 10 years old and whom adored me.  Basically, I could not do anything wrong.  During the Chinese New Year,  she would make this dish by slicing the rice cake into thin pieces and fried with egg batter.  Until these days,  I still can remember the taste of this sweet rice cake in her house.  Ever since she passed away, no one in my family ever made this again.  I am going to try to make this later,  hopefully, Ev would love it.
