We did a lot this weekend. We drove 2 hours up to our little cabin. Before we got there, we had to go to Walmart to get stuffs (I can't tell you how, but every time we go to Walmart in Pennsylvania, we end up spending $130 dollars worth of stuffs, the essentials that we found them cheaper to get at Walmart then in the city. And we don't want Walmart to come to the city because we like our bodegas. Just leave Walmart at the suburb) and by the time we made it to the cabin, it was already 3:00 p.m. We had to "open" the cabin after we winterized the place in late December and there was always surprises.
Every spring when we drive up to the cabin, we always joke about how our little cabin might look like after 3 months of brutal winter. We thought about a tall tree might fall on the cabin. We would not know because we occasionally call the cabin to see if the answering machine pick up the call. And it always does but the machine might pick up the call does not mean that a family of deers do not make our cabin their home if a tree fall on the cabin and it exposes to the natural element.
So far, the exterior of the cabin have not been damaged (except we have to treat log home occasionally, if I knew this, I would not buy a log cabin). This time, the surprise was inside of the cabin.
The pipes bursted, not just one but three places. Apparently, we did not fully winterize the place, we probably did not know what we were doing. We learn how to winterize a house from our friends and from the internet and it was never enough. Every year, there is always something, pipes bursted twice and each time was hundreds of dollars (not just $100 but a lot more); and there was road erosion, two different places at different times; and there was mold one year because we forgot to turn on the humidifier soon enough; and there was gypsy moth (but I am not going there this time because it is just too much).
In any event, we tried to tape the holes with the "magic tape" on the pipes and it did not work and we tried to call any plumbers to come on Good Friday (guess what, there was no body who can come right away, surprisingly shocking.) we headed back to the city at 5:30 p.m.
One good thing is that we stopped by Daisy May's at the west side. It was pretty good ribs. We spent the rest of the weekend in the city. The weather was good, we saw one cardinal in the Central Park and bought a space shuttle from a ballon man at the park because Ev wanted it. It was too expensive.
